Budesonide is used to prevent and reduce symptoms (wheezing and shortness of breath) caused by asthma. Controlling breathing problems may decrease lost time from work or school. This medication belongs to a class of drugs known as corticosteroids. It works directly in the lungs to make breathing easier by reducing the irritation and swelling of the airways. This medication must be used regularly to prevent breathing problems (attacks of wheezing/shortness of breath). It does not work immediately and should not be used to relieve an asthma attack. If an attack occurs use your quick-relief inhaler as prescribed. If your quick-relief inhaler does not seem to work as well if you need to use more than usual of your quick-relief inhaler for 2 or more days in a row or if you need to use more than one full canister of your quick-relief inhaler over a 2-month period seek immediate medical attention.OTHER USES: This section contains uses of this drug that are not listed in the approved professional labeling for the drug but that may be prescribed by your health care professional. News: Micronutrient powder helps prevent malnutrition in children up to two years old, study review shows In a systematic review published by the Cochrane Collaboration last week, researchers found that the micronutrient powder used in recent years to combat malnutrition, anemia and iron deficiency in children was very helpful in preventing malnutrition in children six to 24 months old, VOA News reports. WHO epidemiologist Luz Maria De Regil "and other researchers combined the results of eight previous studies involving thousands of children," VOA writes, adding, "The studies were done on three continents, in countries as varied as Haiti, Cambodia and Ghana." "Specifically, the supplement powder reduced anemia by about one-third and iron deficiency by half compared to no supplement or a placebo," VOA notes. "The micronutrient powder seems to be about equally effective as iron supplements, but the authors say that conclusion should be treated 'cautiously,' because of limited data," the news service adds (Chimes, 9/9).
